Most teachers are no strangers to this kind of tweaking – in fact, we may consider it an essential and healthy part of lesson planning. At Citizenship Teacher we agree with this philosophy, but like to make things easier in practice by publishing all of our resources in customisable MS Office formats. The result? It's simple to take our resources and make them your own. In this we are unique.

In addition, these same resources can be displayed on a whiteboard or accessed via a computer suite.

Premium resources: video files and current hot topic lessons

We all now have access to countless news and current affairs programmes online.  In theory, showing students relevant, interesting video clips has never been easier.  Yet browsing for just the right story, at just the right length, can take an age - and then you have to make sure you can find it again the next day, never mind find the time to plan the rest of the lesson around it.  We include video clips as an intrinsic part of many of our lessons.  And they're not only available on the site - once you're a member you can save them to your computer - so they're yours to keep.

Sometimes there simply aren't enough hours in the day to produce lesson plans and resources based on current 'hot' news topics. Which is why we've done the work for you. We’ll be publishing regular topical lessons, available to members on a special preview basis.

Activities that once involved hundreds of pieces of card are easy with a computer: ranking, matching, sequencing and snap games are among the engaging task types in our growing bank of ready-made IWB resources.   Because we believe that ICT should be a tool to serve teachers, rather than an end in itself, most of our ready-made whizzy resources have been developed as additions or alternatives to traditional paper-based resources in our lessons, which means they are fully integrated and based in solid teaching skills rather than technical proficiency. My Citizenship Teacher for storing your favourite resources

Sometimes the scope and scale of the Citizenship Teacher libraries can make finding that perfect lesson resource a little time-consuming, which is why we've created My Citizenship Teacher to help you personalise the whole process. My Citizenship Teacher is your filing system where you can select, store and organise your own lesson choices, adding materials from Citizenship Teacher and elsewhere. Once you are logged in a single mouse-click places any of our files in your folder. There's even a notes field so you can annotate or label your selections. What all this means is that as you browse the libraries you can use My Citizenship Teacher to:

• list your favourite resources
• collect a set of materials for a particular class or week or (if you're very organised!) select and store your next lesson or even a complete course
• file the resources you're planning to edit or store resources you'd like to use on an IWB
• create a 'wish list' of materials you'd like to use at a later date
• remember a particular type of resource, like lesson warmers
• use the notes to help you use any of the above collections, and to evaluate and improve a lesson for next time
